Do you feel that more often than not your dog is walking you, rather than you walking your dog? Learning how you can train
your dog to walk on a leash is easier than you think. There are a few things you should know however, I came across this article
recently and found it very informative and wanted to share with you.
One of the most important tasks in dog training and establishing your authority is training the dog to walk on a leash. You will establish and build the right relationship between you and your dog as you learn how to train your dog to walk on a leash.
The first thing the dog has to le
arn is not to pull on the leash. This is taught by you giving a quick snap on the leash whenever he starts to pull. And never let him keep pulling. Stop walking until he stops pulling.
Establishing and maintaining authority while you learn how to train your dog to walk on a leash is very important. You have to be more stubborn than your dog. If you have a dog that is nearing or in adolescence, he will be trying to establish his place in your pack. Don’t interpret his quest for dominance as bad behavior. He is just doing what he knows he is supposed to do. Your job is to let him know that you are the pack leader and he has to go where you lead him.
Leash walking is a skill for both the owner and the dog. You will both be learning. You must learn to convey your desires and your dog must learn to follow them. Learning how to train your dog to walk on a leash is mostly a matter of establishing the right relationship with your dog.
Recently I took my dog Smash on a three mile hike to a waterfall that gave gave me and Smash plenty of practice. He did great until the thunderstorm came. Then he decided maybe he needed to be alpha dog and drag us to shelter. He calmed down soon enough and did really well on the trip back to the parking area.
You will need lots of practice to learn how to train your dog to walk on a leash. But you must always make sure your practice sessions reinforce the correct behavior patterns both in your dog and yourself.

4 Tips for Small Dog Training

Potty-training your little pooch can be quite a big job. But, if you follow these steps, small dog training can be as easy as pie!
1. “Crate” the small dog. Find a crate that’s big enough for your pet to run around in. One area in the crate should include its water bowl. The other area should include e a sleeping pad and toys. Cover the crate’s floor with newspapers, to prepare for any “accidents” involving your pup and its excretory system.
2. Teach elimination schedule by using the crate. At the onset of your small dog training, take your pawed pal out of the crate 20 minutes after its meal. Each time your pup poops, praise it. You’ll feel silly, that much is a given, but your pet will be all the better for it. Afterwards, play with your puppy for up to an hour, and then put it back in the crate. If you ever observe your canine sniffing and circling, take it out of its cage immediately, unless, of course, you want to spend the next 30 minutes cleaning the mess.
3. Gradually increase your pooch’s time outside its crate. Gradually increase the time that the puppy is in the crate, and how much space it can run around in surrounding your home. Early each morning, take your hound out of the crate and into the yard. Over time, your pet will learn to control its bladder better. As that happens, allow it to walk to the door independently or with a leash.
4. Let your dog locate its personal “spot” in the yard. Whenever you take your canine outside the house, be sure to take it to the same portion of the yard. Before the dog eliminates itself, it will go sniffing for its “spot” in your yard.
When potty-training your pawed pal, it’s crucial to take certain steps. Use these tips to ensure small dog training success!
